The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority is pleased to extend an invitation to all interested stakeholders to attend the National Workshop on Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), Offsetting, and CORSIA Eligible Emission Units. The workshop is scheduled to take place from 22nd to 26th July 2024 at the Protea Hotel, Fürstenhof in Windhoek.
This workshop aims to provide valuable insights and discussions on CORSIA, offsetting practices, and the use of CORSIA eligible emission units. The workshop will attract participants who are directly and indirectly responsible for Environmental Protection under the following sectors/industries Airline Operators & Representatives, Airport Operators, Fuel Producers & Suppliers, Government Officials particularly from the following ministerial agencies (Transport, Environment, Energy, Agriculture), Technology Providers, Project Development Agencies/Persons, National Standard Institutions, Accreditation Bodies & Validation & Verification Bodies, Investors and Academia.
CORSIA is the first Global market-based measure for the aviation sector, designed by ICAO as an additional measure to the typical in sector ones, aimed at assisting ICAO in reaching its Aspirational Goal of Carbon Neutrality from 2020 and Net Zero by 2050. Namibia volunteered the CORSIA mechanism and is fully committed to assist ICAO in its goal to decarbonise the aviation sector and reach Net Zero by 2050.The EU CORSIA Africa and Caribbean project is an EU funded project assisting States from the Africa and Caribbean region in understanding and implementing CORSIA mechanisms, peculiarities, tools, formats, templates to be used by each CORSIA stakeholders.
The workshop will present the following key aspects:
- CORSIA under ICAO and relations with the LTAG
- CORSIA key elements, EMP, ER, VR, EUCR, and CORSIA offsetting,
- Specific elements of CORSIA eligible emissions units,
- Crediting period eligibility, Vintage eligibility, and Project/program type eligibility,
- Article 6 Authorization: To be retired for CORSIA use, CORSIA units from crediting periods 2021,
- Possibility to design/scale up the number of CORSIA projects from Namibia to be inserted into the ICAO CORSIA eligible programmes,
- Possibility to design a programme that in the future can apply to ICAO TAB to become CORSIA eligible.
